“Innovation for sustainability„
For Christine Berger, the transfer of innovation to the f ield is largely based on interactive,
bottom-up processes.
The challenge is to transform the operational knowledge developed within the usual R&I
frameworks, and to ‘digest’ it so that it can be appropriated and used at all levels, in line with the
objectives of the various partners.
On a subject as global and holistic as sustainability, these processes of “digesting” and
“exploiting” the knowledge gained from innovation are of major importance and put the farmer
back at the centre as the main player in this appropriation process!

“Generational renewal„
For Delphine Neumeister, the renewal of the agricultural workforce is taking place in a context of profound
transformation in rural areas and agriculture. The farming profession, increasingly marginal within the active
population, is marked by the ageing of farm managers.
Delphine explain that it is essential to restore meaning to the profession by rethinking working conditions
and quality of life, within the framework of a new social contract that aligns more closely with contemporary
aspirations. Issues related to the workforce, and particularly salaried employment, are becoming increasingly
pressing. Moreover, renewal also involves opening the sector to new prof iles, notably women and individuals
from non-agricultural backgrounds. Finally, as agricultural work continues to evolve and diversify, it is
crucial to support its transformation in line with farmers’ expectations, societal demands, changes in labour
collectives, and territorial dynamics.
